Today’s Tit-Bits attempt’s to throw some light, on the wonderful work being done by CRIS, for making our Indian Railways, a top-class EPayment driven Institution.
A Brief History of CRIS
In 1982, Government decided to set up a Freight Operations Information Systems (FOIS) later in 1986,Ministry of Railways established the CENTRE FOR RAILWAY INFORMATION SYSTEMS (CRIS), Chanakya Puri, New Delhi - 21 to be an umbrella for all computer activities on Indian Railways (IR). They also entrusted it with the task of design, development and implementation of the FOIS, along with its associated communications infrastructure. The Centre started functioning from July, 1987.It is an autonomous organization headed by Managing Director .CRIS is mainly a project oriented organization engaged in development of major computer systems on the Railways. CRIS has acquired special knowledge and expertise in the field of informatics.
One of the major success, is the ongoing automation of Freight Collection.
Broad Process Flow: -
i) Customer must have an account for E-Payment of Railway Freight at Internet
Banking enabled Bank Branch.
ii) Signing of a tripartite agreement* among Bank, Indian Railways and the
Customer.
iii) Booking of goods by the Customer for transportation from one Station.
(Loading point) to another Station (Destination) through Railways.
iv) Sending the request for collection of Freight b y CR IS Server and processing the
request b y Bank Internet Banking system.
v) Release of goods at the Loading point by the Railways after generation of RR.
