Twitter Tip Jar - Can you Tip via #UPI?

Twitter Tip Jar - Can you Tip via #UPI?

I was searching Twitter to see if any profile has enabled Tip Jar. Unluckily could not find Tip Jar enabled profiles.

Please let me know any Twitter profiles that have Tip Jar enabled. This will enable me to try out a micro-donation.

Twitter’s Tip Jar is a feature for Tweet senders to receive tips from anyone seeing their tweet in English language. In the near future, Tip Jar feature will be enabled for other languages too.

Eligible Twitter account holders can add Tip Jar to their profile and accept tips. In the initial phase, eligible twitters are creators, journalists, experts and non-profits. The list will be expanded as days go by.

The preferred payment services are: Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal and Venmo. Twitter takes no cut.

On Android, tips can also be sent within Spaces. Spaces is the new way to listen to live audio conversations on Twitter. The creator of a Space i.e Host can also receive Tips via Tip Jar, if his/her profile is eligible for the same. As ‘spaces’, are more direct than tweets, the chances of Tips after completion of a ‘space’, are high.

Cash App - Cash App is a mobile payment service developed by Square, Inc. that allows users to transfer money to one another using a mobile phone app. The service is available in the US and the UK. As Cash App is still not available in India, tips cannot be done via #UPI

Patreon - Patreon is an American membership platform that provides business tools for content creators to run a subscription service. It helps creators and artists earn a monthly income by providing rewards and perks to their subscribers. As Patreon is not yet available in India, tips cannot be done via #UPI

PayPal – As per an article dt. 21 Dec, 2021, PayPal's Xoom adds UPI payments enabling NRIs and PIOs to remit money to India in real-time article. But, will this work in Twitter Tip Jar has to be seen in action.

Venmo - Venmo is a mobile payment service owned by PayPal. Venmo account holders can transfer funds to others via a mobile phone app; both the sender and receiver have to live in the U.S.. so #UPI is out of the question

change.org Please accept #UPI as a donation payment mode

change.org Please accept #UPI as a donation payment mode

change.org has two major types of donations. One is a generic donation towards itself, and the other is a donation to promote a specific petition. These are also known as ‘Promoted Petitions’.

The full FAQs of  ‘Promoted Petitions’ can be read @ https://help.change.org/s/article/Promoted-Petitions-FAQs?language=en_US

change.org has tied up with ‘Stripe’, to process the donations. In India, respective petition supporters can only donate via a Credit Card. There is no other donation mode.

Yes, #UPI is not a donation payment mode. This is very much surprising. UPI is very, very popular in India, and change.org should accept petition specific donations through UPI too.

At the same time, Change.Org accepts generic donations via UPI. Razorpay is the payment processor for generic donations.

This means it should not be difficult for Change.Org to incorporate UPI as a donation mode for ‘Promoted Petitions’ too.

Nature’s Fury-Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh

Nature’s Fury-Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh

In the last one month, floods have hit many parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, leading to wide-scale destruction.

Media Houses, NGO’s, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, have appealed to the public to donate in cheques/demand drafts or in kind, to aid the relief efforts. And, as usual, the public have responded overwhelmingly.

It is observed that the majority have requested the public to donate through Cheque/Demand Draft.
Government of Andhra Pradesh has also provided a Payment Gateway, for donations through Credit Cards and also provided details for Wire Transfer’s from abroad.

However, no organization has thought of the POS Terminals as a Donation Tool.
http://prashantnepayments.blogspot.com/2009/09/pos-terminals-aid-to-impulse-donations.html

Few Organizations, have had the fore-thought to provide IFSC Details for donations through NEFT.
Eg:- Eenaudu Relief Fund.
Kudos to the Eenadu Team-Members, for this brilliant idea.

As can be seen, only 4 fields are required for a successfully NEFT Transaction
01) Beneficiary Name
02) Beneficiary Account Number
03) Beneficiary Bank Branch Name
04) IFSC of Beneficiary Bank Branch Name

Nothing more, nothing less.

Donations through NEFT are safe, and very cost-effective as compared to donations through Payment Gateway or Cheques.

Cheques have to be sent for collection and the reconcialtion time from collection to realizations is 4-7 working days. And, the burden on the Banking System, in collection on Cheques is also high as compared to NEFT Transactions.

Reconcialtion time for NEFT Transactions is comparatively less, as the NEFT Transaction Voucher contains the requisite information.

And the best part is that the courier charges/postal charges in mailing the Cheque/Demand Draft, is NIL for NEFT Transactions.
Moreover, this is also an opportunity for the donors/public to become aware of the ePayments, and their immense possibilities.
